Recently, Aussie captain Steve Smith posted a picture on Instagram dressed in Maharashtrian attire and posing alongside Indian vice-captain and Rising Pune Supergiant teammate Ajinkya Rahane.

The Puneri Pagadi is a headgear, a symbol of self-importance and righteousness especially in the city of Pune, India. The headgear was introduced in the 19th century by Mahadev Govind Ranade, a social reformer in India.
The ‘puneri pagadi’ popularized by Indian leader Lokmanya Tilak in India, is today entered the mainstream Indian fashion for men as it is popularly worn on special occasions like wedding ceremonies and traditional days in schools and colleges.

This popular headgear also received the Intellectual Property Right (IPR) under the tag of ‘Puneri pagadi’. Other Indian products have also received such rights including like Tirupati ladoos, Darjeeling tea, Banarasi saris, among others.
