Nobody knows when humanity started wearing Headgears, Headdress or Headwear, as this piece of clothing was always publicized by men in various forms of rock and cave paintings in Indus Valley Civilization.

Headdress gave men the needed protection against the harsh weather conditions, fulfilled the social and religious obligations and simultaneously helped them distinguish themselves by giving them the much-needed identity.
The headgears have always been in the latest fashion trends for men, they have always been the source of inspiration for creating men new style at least in India. Headgears are the new trend in fashion for men in India, as they look fabulous on a variety of Indian traditional formal dresses.

If hats are synonymous with western fashion, traditional Indian headgears such as Khindka (Haryanvi Turban), Phento (Gujrati Turban), Rajasthani Turban, Dastar (Sikh Turban), Kashmiri Cap (Karakul) or Marathi Traditional Turban, Phetahave given Indian men their own distinctiveness.

Indian men wear headgears on special occasions right from weddings to festivals and important gatherings. Indian men wear the Headdress or turbans with traditional shervani, jacket, kurta and pyjamas, churidar or dhoti. Kalgi is an important add-on and a fashion statement for Indian men generally worn on a wedding by men. ‘The Prince of the day’ wear it ion the front of the turban consisting of single or cluster of feathers with ornamental decoration for men.



Throughout the Middle East and Asia the Turbans or Headgearsare still considered as a symbol of Royalty, Pride and Honor. While many Asians wear turbans, the Sikh Turban is a long band of cloth which each Khalsa ties in his own unique way. However many Sikhs believe that the Kalgi should not be worn today.
