While the Asian conical hat is famous through out South Asia, East and Southeast Asia starting from Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia to Vietnam, its decorated version called ‘Jaapi’ is increasingly becoming the new fashion for men in India.
Jaapi traditionally is a flat bottom conical hat made largely from bamboo or cane. The heavily decorated hats were won by the nobles on special occasions. New trend in fashion for men has taken this royal headgear to the Global arena, where men are heavily adopting this new craze with the haute couture clothing line.
